Job Description

An opportunity has arisen to join a rapidly growing Chartered Accountancy Practice in Brentwood, Essex. The role will initially focus on payroll and bookkeeping, although there will be opportunities to gain experience in other accounts and taxation matters. If you are interested in a career in Accountancy, this Apprenticeship is definitely for you!

Your duties will consist of

  • Directly assisting the payroll manager in their daily duties of processing the payroll and auto enrolment pensions for numerous clients.
  • Assisting with bookkeeping and VAT returns for various clients.
  • General office duties including photocopying, scanning etc.
  • Will be client facing and include direct, telephone and email communication
  • Will be required to use a number of packages including Star Payroll, Xero, Sage 50, CCH and Excel.
  • Training will be provided throughout the Apprenticeship as well as working towards the AAT Level 3 Qualification

Working Week

Monday – Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm 37.5 hours per week


Requirements & Prospects


Ideally a minimum 5 GCSE’s C and above including Maths and English (or equivalents)

The newly launched Assistant Accountant apprenticeship programme is accredited by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and combines outstanding classroom training, dedicated workplace mentorship and on-the-job experience to build the necessary skills, knowledge and behaviours to become a skilled assistant accountant.
The apprenticeship includes:
• AAT L2 Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping
• SAGE L2 Computerised Accounts
• AAT L3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting AQ 2016

Training and Assessment
• Throughout the first 12 months you will be required to attend the 3aaa Accountancy Academy in Chelmsford on average 25-30 days (plus exam days).
• You will attend a full week intensive course to prepare you for the AAT Synoptic Assessment (approx. month 12-14)
• Your dedicated Assessor will visit you in the workplace every 8-12 weeks
• You will be invited to 3aaa Masterclasses presented by industry experts to enrich your learning experience.
• The remainder of your training will be completed in the workplace.
