Job Description

An amazing opportunity to work in the prestigious Cheltenham Ladies college. You will be assisting the College Web Developer.

You will support the college Web developer and the wider IT department in the development and maintenance of code and systems throughout the college.

Other duties include:

  • Share programming projects – to develop skills
  • Use the college Helpdesk to support systems already running
  • Produce specifications for new projects after discussion with end users
  • Document code and produce user guides if necessary
  • Maintain code where possible, re-write internal systems to improve them.
  • Develop in house libraries of code which can be re-used
  • Participate in code reviews to improve quality of code in-house
  • Help with development issues in the absence of the Web Developer
  • Help to advance our code base – innovate and be proactive
  • Attend departmental meetings

Working Week

Monday – Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm

Requirements & Prospects

Qualifications

A minimum of 5 GCSE’s C and above Including Maths and English (or equivalents)

Desired Skills

A High level of ICT skills relevant to creation of web applications. An applied understanding of HTML5 and an understanding of CSS mark up. You will also require a basic level of javascript.

Personal Qualities

You will need to be a motivated individual who likes a challenge. You will need to be of a more mature nature with a professional confidence.

Training

Throughout the duration of your Apprenticeship (typically 15 months) you will be required to attend the 3aaa Technology Academy in Gloucester for 16 days of training. The remainder of your training will be completed in the workplace with your Employer. You will work towards a Level 3 Apprenticeship standard –Software Development Technician. The qualifications consist of:
• Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths (if applicable)
• Knowledge Module 1 – Software Development Methodologies Part 1 (Introduction)
• Knowledge Module 2 – Programming Part 1 (Introduction)
• Knowledge Module 1 – Software Development Methodologies Part 2 (Plus Exam)
• Knowledge Module 2 – Programming Part 2 (Plus Exam)
Knowledge Modules are specified by the British Computer Society (BCS)
