Girlguiding North East England is part of Girlguiding, which is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK with more than half of the female population involved in guiding at some point in their lives. We give our members a safe space in which to be themselves, have fun, build friendships, gain life skills and make a positive difference to their lives and the communities around them.
Girlguiding operates with a mix of paid workers and volunteers and there is an expectation that both will adhere to its policies and related statements to ensure we deliver guiding safely, consistently and in accordance with legislation. There should be a respect between paid staff and volunteers as they work together and provide mutual support as they undertake their different roles. We believe in being fair, open and inclusive in both employment and membership.
There are around 60,000 members and recognised volunteers in the North East of England and the Region office serves as a central meeting place and administrative headquarters for the whole of the Region. The Region stretches from Northumberland in the north to Lincolnshire in the south and across to the Lancashire and Cumbrian borders.
The Region office team is currently made up of three full-time and three-part time members of staff (with this role being a fourth part time position). It is a purpose-built office facility at Monks Cross with meeting rooms for up to 60 volunteers and office space for administrative staff. There are parking facilities on site for staff members.
