Job Description

An excellent opportunity for an IT Apprentice to join the IT service department within Thomas Deacon Academy. Providing 1st line technical support to all academy stakeholders in accordance with agreed performance standards.

Your role will be to work with the others in the team to support the staff and students in the everyday use of IT equipment.

Duties would include:

  • Maintain the academy IT systems and hardware
  • Ensure all learning spaces with IT equipment are safe and operational
  • Maintain the academy asset register, ensuring all equipment is appropriately logged, tagged and security marked
  • Install, repair and configure components, peripherals and software as required
  • Talking to computer users to find and fix problems
  • Updating knowledge banks
  • Servicing and fixing equipment
  • Setting up new equipment and upgrading existing
  • Training people on new systems
  • Provide 1st line technical support to all
  • Administration tasks
  • Support Audio Visual requirements
  • To assist with the training and support of teachers

Working Week

Monday – Friday 8.30 – 4.30 37 hours per week


Requirements & Prospects


Ideally a minimum 4 GCSE’s C and above Including Maths, English and ICT (or equivalents)

Throughout the duration of your Apprenticeship you will be required to attend the 3aaa Technology Academy in Peterborough for up to 8 weeks on a block release basis for structured training. The remainder of your training will be completed in the workplace with your Employer. You will work towards a Level 3 Trailblazer – Infrastructure Technician. The qualifications consist of:
• Edexcel Advanced Apprenticeship in IT, Software, Web and Telecoms
• L3 Diploma in ICT Professional Competence
• L3 Extended Diploma in ICT Systems and Principles
• Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths (if applicable)
• BCS Foundation Certificate in Networking and Architecture Principles (Knowledge Module 1)
• BCS Foundation Certificate in Mobile and Operating Systems (Knowledge Module 2)
• BCS Foundation Certificate in Cloud Services (Knowledge Module 3)
• MTA in Software Development Fundamentals or HTML5 App Development Fundamentals (Knowledge Module 4)
• BCS Foundation Certificate in Business Processes (Knowledge Module 5)
