Job Description

This is a fantastic development opportunity for a budding IT individual who is keen to gain valuable IT support experience within a professional environment.
  • Desktop Support – Perform basic PC hardware repairs and upgrades. Install applications and troubleshoot basic problems. Replace printer consumables as required.
  • ICT/AV Presentation Setup/Support – Setup projectors, laptops and audio-visual equipment for presentations and public speakers.
  • Health & Safety – carry out basic safety checks. Follow relevant H&S procedures and raise awareness among staff, pupils and other users.
  • Configuration & Installation – Update records of installed hardware and software; maintain a software library and store original copies of installed applications and licences.
  • Continuity, Maintenance & Security – Follow routine maintenance procedures. Follow school backup, virus protection and security procedures.
  • Support Request Management – Respond to support requests according to school procedures, recording detailed diagnostic information and using appropriate knowledge bases/logs to inform diagnosis and resolution. Determine whether an immediate solution is both required and possible.

Working Week

Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm


Requirements & Prospects


A minimum 5 GCSE’s C and above Including Maths, English and ICT (or equivalents)

Desired Skills

• A desire to develop IT skills - Training will be provided by the IT Systems’ Manager
• Good Communication Skills – Be able to interact with staff and pupils in a polite, professional and friendly manner

Personal Qualities

• The ability to take ownership of tasks and use initiative to solve problems. A ‘can-do’ approach is essential.

Throughout the duration of your Apprenticeship (typically 15 months) you will be required to attend the 3aaa Technology Academy in Southampton for 30 days of training across five months featuring structured training. The remainder of your training will be completed in the workplace with your Employer. You will work towards a Level 3 Apprenticeship standard – Infrastructure Technician. The qualifications consist of:
• Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths (if applicable)
• Knowledge Module 1 - Networking and Architecture
• Knowledge Module 2 - Mobile and Operating Systems
• Knowledge Module 3 - Cloud Services
• Knowledge Module 4 - Coding and Logic
• Knowledge Module 5 - Business Processes
• One vendor certification selected based on your job role and individual capabilities (Typically a Microsoft Technical Associate (MTA) certification)
Knowledge Modules are specified by the British Computer Society (BCS)
