IT Support Analyst (Apprentice)
What does the role involve?
We are looking for an IT Apprentice to assist with the provision of general support to all users and to carry out basic system administration duties. You will work towards providing an outstanding service to principal(s) across the firm, utilising the technology and support functions to their best effect and working within the firm’s core values.
Who will I be working with?
We have an IT team in our Birmingham, Cambridge, Manchester and Norwich offices. The team in Birmingham consists of an IT Support Manager, IT Infrastructure Engineer, Information Security Manager and two IT Support Analysts. There is also an IT Development Team based in Birmingham. You will report to the IT Support Manager.
Main duties and responsibilities
Backup media – unpack, storing on site and archiving off site.
Monitoring consumable stock levels and advising office managers when it needs replenishing.
Receiving deliveries and storing; updating stock control software and informing the IT manager when goods have been received.
Backup tape rotation on a daily basis.
Ensuring equipment is stored correctly in the IT store build room.
Pool equipment setup and maintenance.
Entering new kit into asset register.
Primarily kit builds – image application and asset management – send to other sites, liaising closely with on site IT managers.
Kit installation on users desks
Printer labelling – name and trays.
Testing equipment – phones, speech mikes, PC’s, laptops and headsets.
Hardware upgrades/maintenance – changing drives for SSD’s, memory upgrades.
Kit disposal – wiping drives.
Meeting room setup (and checking network connections etc). Testing VC, media presentation IT equipment (daily).
Basic patching. Replacing broken network cables / power to desks. Tidying up desk areas where cabling is messy.
Working WeekMonday – Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm 37.5 Hours per week
Requirements & Prospects
QualificationsIdeally a minimum 6 GCSE’s C and above Including Maths, English and ICT (or equivalents)
Desired SkillsSome experience in a busy team environment
Knowledge and an interest in the IT function
Six GCSEs Grade C and above (including Maths and English) or the equivalent
Personal QualitiesFriendly and approachable
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong client-service skills
A calm, methodical approach to work, especially when busy
Able to use initiative, prioritise and work effectively when faced with numerous deadlines
Common sense approach
Pro-active and a “can do” attitude

• BCS Foundation Certificate in Networking and Architecture Principles (Knowledge Module 1)
• BCS Foundation Certificate in Mobile and Operating Systems (Knowledge Module 2)
• BCS Foundation Certificate in Cloud Services (Knowledge Module 3)
• MTA in Software Development Fundamentals or HTML5 App Development Fundamentals (Knowledge Module 4)
• BCS Foundation Certificate in Business Processes (Knowledge Module 5)
