Job Description

Are you looking to take your first steps in your career in IT? An excellent opportunity has come up within a prestigious shipping company.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide support on technical I.T. and communication functions, dealing with routine and non-routine maintenance and repair.
  • Complete and assist with I.T. technical day to day admin tasks.
  • Support and communicate to vessel staff on technical I.T. issues.
  • Log and manage support calls via Helpdesk software ensuring it is kept up to date.
  • Maintain I.T. and Communication equipment inventories.
  • May be required to attend company vessels worldwide, to assist with, or where appropriate install, upgrade: new I.T. equipment, repair and maintain IT equipment and software.
  • Monitor vessel’s compliance with company I.T. communications policies.
  • Ensure virus definition files are updated quarterly.
  • When attending a vessel, produce a Visit Report and update the attendance log.
  • Maintain network security and ensure that data is backed up in line with the company IT policy.
  • Communicate I.T. issues to the rest of the I.T. team on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure that New Equipment Installation checklists are completed.
  • Configure new PCs and arrange delivery to vessels.
  • During absence of Shipnet Project Manager assist with Shipnet Vessel COMMS

Working Week

Monday – Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm

Qualifications

Ideally a minimum 4 GCSE’s C and above Including Maths, English and ICT (or equivalents)

• Able to troubleshoot basic network problems.
• Have built or repaired your own Computer.

Training

Throughout the duration of your Apprenticeship you will be required to attend the 3aaa Technology Academy in Kings Cross for up to 8 weeks on a block release basis for structured training. The remainder of your training will be completed in the workplace with your Employer. You will work towards a Level 3 Trailblazer – Infrastructure Technician. The qualifications consist of:
• Edexcel Advanced Apprenticeship in IT, Software, Web and Telecoms
• L3 Diploma in ICT Professional Competence
• L3 Extended Diploma in ICT Systems and Principles
• Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths (if applicable)
• BCS Foundation Certificate in Networking and Architecture Principles (Knowledge Module 1)
• BCS Foundation Certificate in Mobile and Operating Systems (Knowledge Module 2)
• BCS Foundation Certificate in Cloud Services (Knowledge Module 3)
• MTA in Software Development Fundamentals or HTML5 App Development Fundamentals (Knowledge Module 4)
• BCS Foundation Certificate in Business Processes (Knowledge Module 5)
