Within this role you will be reporting to a Test Lead or Technical Test Manager. You will contribute to the scripting and execution of IT change specific test scripts for projects and small changes.You will work within a small change or project focused matrix environment and report progress on testing activities to the Project or Small Change Tests


As a member of a flexible test resource pool you will be required to conduct ‘hands on’ test activities for projects and small changes such as test script creation and execution whilst working to a test schedule set by the Test Lead.

The testing will utilise manual and automated scripting and execution, functional and non-functional test techniques

You will work within the guidelines set out in the VWFS UK Test Strategy.


• Analyse design documentation to identify and create test cases and test scripts
• Build and maintain the requirements traceability matrix to provide evidence of test coverage
• Identify test data requirements to run test scripts
• Identify dependencies between test scripts and other prerequisites to assist with test scheduling
• Identify the test scripts to be included in regression test packs
• Execute test scripts; capture evidence and record actual results
• Support the development teams in understanding the nature of a defect, taking time to walk through the steps taken to create the defect if required
• For projects and small changes, work as per the overall project or small change Test Approach covering all required test phases in line with the VWFS UK Test Strategy and including those undertaken by other teams and external parties
• Conduct test execution in line with the agreed test schedule and ensure actual test results are accurately recorded
• Ensure defects are raised in accordance with the defect management process, triaged and passed to the appropriate team for investigation and resolution.
• Timely escalation of risks and issues to the Project/Small Change Test Lead, identifying effective solutions or mitigating actions
• Support test phase closure and input into the end of phase completion report summarising the results of the test phase and recommending whether or not to proceed to the next test phase or stage

35 hours per week – hours per day to be confirmed


Requirements & Prospects


A minimum of 4 GCSE’s C and above Including Maths and English (or equivalents)

Desired Skills

  1. • A desire to study for a ISTQB Foundation Level in System testing • Proficient with Excel
  2. • Previous experience in Financial Services, Automotive Finance or retail consumer finance (B2C)
  3. • Demonstrable experience in software testing including the identification of test cases, production of test scripts and test execution
  4. • Good working knowledge of the use of HP ALM or similar tools
  5. • ISTQB qualified to Foundation level in Software Testing
  6. • An understanding of development languages and coding techniques

Throughout the duration of your Apprenticeship (typically 15 months) you will be required to attend the 3aaa Technology Academy in Milton Keynes for 16 days of training. The remainder of your training will be completed in the workplace with your Employer. You will work towards a Level 3 Apprenticeship standard –Software Development Technician. The qualifications consist of:
• Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths (if applicable)
• Knowledge Module 1 – Software Development Methodologies Part 1 (Introduction)
• Knowledge Module 2 – Programming Part 1 (Introduction)
• Knowledge Module 1 – Software Development Methodologies Part 2 (Plus Exam)
• Knowledge Module 2 – Programming Part 2 (Plus Exam)
Knowledge Modules are specified by the British Computer Society (BCS)
